About 2 months ago, I checked our ISP’s website about getting a dual-stack connection. The website said that our area was covered, but after enabling IPV6, our router didn’t seem to be picking up an IPV6 address. When I called their customer support, they assured me that we were not actually in an area with coverage, even though their site said otherwise. I forgot about this whole debacle until today.

For about a week, we’ve been having issues with our internet connection. Often there is about 40% packet loss so traffic is slowed to a crawl. I spent some time on the phone with our ISP’s support today, and while they haven’t been able to fix the issue yet, I came across something awesome. When I plugged my computer directly into the cable modem, I saw that I was assigned an IPV6 address! Sure enough, when I checked the router, it was now running in dual-stack! I’m not sure if it happened today when they re-provisioned the modem, or if it had been activated for some time already, but I am definitely happy about this.
